To make it faster to input your emissions data, you can connect Climate Smart to your online utility provider account. Heating and electricity data will automatically be added to your inventory every billing period, usually once a month. This means you’ll have at least one less activity to enter to measure your greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint.

How it works
After your sign in is authorized, we’ll import utility data from up to the past 12 months, based on what’s available in your account history This data is added to one or more of the following activities, depending on which utilities you connect:
If you already started adding emission sources to your inventory, we recommend reviewing your heating and/or electricity data to make sure there are no duplicate entries. Utility data will be automatically imported into your inventory every billing cycle (usually once per month) until you choose to disconnect your accounts.
For now, you can only sync data for generated heat (Scope 1) and purchased electricity (Scope 2). This means if you have unmetered heating or electricity because utilities are included in your lease, you’ll have to import your activity data or add individual entries to Climate Smart.
How long it takes
You’ll be notified as soon as your login information is verified, within 48 business hours. Then, it can take up to 5 weeks to retrieve your utility data from your provider.
Connect utility providers

Add a utility provider
To connect a utility provider account:
- From your Toolbox in the top navigation, click Sync Utilities.
- If this is your first time adding a utility provider, under Let’s start syncing, click CONNECT PROVIDER.
If you’ve added a provider before, click + ADD PROVIDER to connect to another account. - Under Provider*, begin typing the name of your utility provider to search for it. Select your provider from the drop-down list that appears.
- Enter the username or email address and password you use to sign into your online utility account. Note: To prevent delays in getting your data, we recommend double-checking your information on your provider’s website first.
- Click CONNECT. You’ll get an email from us within 48 business hours to let you know when your login information is approved.
Disconnect utility providers

- Under Connected Providers, click a provider’s name.
- When you arrive at the Utility Provider Details page, scroll to Account details.

- Under Connected Providers, click a provider’s name.
- When you arrive at the Utility Provider Details page, scroll to Account details.

Note: Reconnecting a utility provider does not automatically import your utility data from the months your account was disconnected. To add the missing data, contact the Customer Success team.
Set locations
We automatically match the addresses from your utility bills to the locations in your inventory. If we can’t automatically match your addresses, you’ll have to set locations manually. You’ll know if you need to set locations when you see the symbol next to a provider name.
Note: We can’t sync your data until your utility address is set to an inventory location.
Learn how to set locations on the Utility Provider Details page.
