Creating a greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory is one of the most important steps in your sustainability journey. With it, your organization can measure and reduce your emissions according to the GHG accounting principles.
A GHG inventory is a summary of your organization’s emission sources over 12 months known as the inventory period. This is usually a calendar or fiscal year. Sometimes, an inventory is called a carbon footprint.
Through Climate Smart, you’ll set your 12-month inventory period and track the activities that are your organization’s emission sources. The GHGs you calculate from your activities are converted into tonnes of carbon equivalents (tCO2e) per year. After identifying your biggest emission sources, your organization can make informed decisions about which strategies to include in your Reduction Plan to make the largest impact.
