These surveys allow your organization to collect information about remote work and commuting to help determine its greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint. If you’re participating in the Work from Home or Commuter Survey, review these frequently asked questions.

Is my data private?
Your data is anonymous and confidential. All the information provided in this survey is only used for reporting purposes.
For more information, review our privacy policy.
If I exit the survey, is my progress saved?
To keep your data anonymous and confidential, your progress is not saved when you leave the survey before submitting it. If you exit the survey early, you’ll need to start from the beginning.
I’m a contractor, intern, or part-time employee. Should I answer the survey?
Ask your team leader if you should answer the survey.
I’m a remote employee, how do I respond to where I worked?
If you’re a fully remote employee who only works from home or another non-employer location, select the option most relevant to you. This might mean choosing the location where the rest of your team is based or your organization’s headquarters. If you’re still not sure, ask your team leader.
Am I fully remote, fully in-person, or hybrid?
A fully remote employee usually works from home or another non-employer location every day. You might occasionally visit an office or worksite, but this is not typical for you.
A fully in-person employee commutes to the workplace every day, for example, an office or other worksite. You might occasionally work from home, but this is not typical for you.
A hybrid employee works from home (or another non-employer location) part-time and works from an employer location, such as an office or other worksite, part-time. For example, working from home some days and commuting to the office for the rest of the week.
How do I calculate the length of my commute?
The Commuter Survey asks how far your typical commute was during the year.
Enter the average length of a round trip between your home and your workplace. This means the typical distance from where you live to where you work and back. For example, if your office is 15 km from your home, you’ll need to enter 30 km.
If you’re not sure how far it is between your home and workplace, we recommend using an online tool such as Google Maps to calculate the distance.
How do I enter my modes of transportation?
The Commuter Survey asks how you travelled to your workplace.
Consider your modes of transportation and estimate the average percentage you travelled by each one during the year. Enter each percentage next to the relevant option.
Note: Your responses must equal 100%.
For example, if you only drove to work in a gas car, enter 100 next to Gas car. If you drove, biked, and took the bus to work, determine approximately how much you did each one, and enter those percentages.
If you didn’t use a mode of transportation from the list, leave the space next to that option blank.
Note: If you used a carsharing service (for example, Evo, Zipcar, or Communauto) and you’re not sure what type of car you drove to work, review your records or the company’s website to check if the vehicle model is listed.
Note: Biking includes electric bikes and scooters.
