Emission factors (EFs) convert activity data into an amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. EFs are necessary to calculate your GHG footprint with Climate Smart. EFs are based on date, location, and activity type.
The Climate Smart team sources EFs from reputable environmental organizations such as:
- Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
- Environment Canada
- US Environment Protection Agency (EPA)
To make sure that calculations are as accurate as possible, the Climate Smart team reviews EFs every year. You can be confident that the EFs used to determine the GHG emissions from your activities are reliable and up-to-date.
If you have questions about how your GHG emissions are calculated, talk to your Climate Smart Advisor (if applicable).
