You might have more than one location that your organization owns, controls, or operates in. For example, an office, a warehouse, and/or a store.
Note: It’s important to add every location to Climate Smart separately so you get the most accurate results.

Prepare location data
You need to enter certain information about your location in Climate Smart. Have the following data about your locations ready.
Location name
Every location name in Climate Smart must be unique. This includes capitalization. For example, “Head Office – Calgary” and “Calgary head office” are different location names in Climate Smart.
To avoid confusion, try to name each location based on geography and building type. For example:
- Manufacturing Plant – Rochester, NY
- Head Office – Toronto
- Distribution Centre – West Coast
Full-time employees (FTEs)
You’ll need to enter the number of employees that work at each location. Remember to update this amount every year.
Climate Smart tracks the number of full-time equivalent employees, or FTEs, that work at each location. This is an intensity metric, meaning we can calculate your emissions based on the number of people who work there.
Enter 1 for each FTE that works at a location. Enter 0.5 for each part-time employee that works at a location. For example, if 20 FTEs and 1 part-time employee work at a location, you’ll enter 20.5 into Climate Smart.
To update the number of employees while your inventory is in progress, you'll need to update your location information. Learn how to update locations.
Address
Be prepared to enter your location’s address, including:
- Street address
- City
- Country
- Region (such as province or state)
- Postal code
Size
